HomeMy WebLinkAbout22.04.13 - Minutes, Womens CommissionWashington County Commission for Women Meeting Minutes 4/13/22 Opening The meeting of The Washington County Commission for Women was called to order at Stone House Urban Winery. Present Amy Miller - Secretary Michelle Sines Shadae Paul-President Barbara Martin Beth Harvey-Vice President Melissa Wilder Approval of Agenda Agenda was not distributed Old Business Several members participated in leading 6 financial literacy classes for 18 residents of Brooke’s House in Hagerstown. The classes with equip them for success when they leave the program. The residents are engaged in the classes and they are going well. New Business Beth discussed ideas to enter a team from the Comission for a possible Triathalon in Hagerstown OR a 5K. Some members volunteered to participate, but several suggested that a 5K is more realistic Recent surveys are available on google drive, everyone is asked to read them and come up with solutions to the community problems noted. Discussion on the planned “TedEx” event entitled, “Dreamers, Doers and Encouragers.” The commission is asked to identify speakers who can speak on overcoming difficulties. The event will be in December or January. Also asking the commission to think of 35 women (3-5 women each) who overcome or are strong leaders in the community. We want to recognize them this month in line with the Commission’s 35 year anniversary It has been brought to our attention that the Women’s Commission needs to have a student and non voting member. We will begin a search for someone who fits this description New applicant, Danielle Sweeney, spoke with us through speaker phone about her interest in the commission. Members unanimously voted to approve her application. Charie McCord, owner of Bloom’s Alley, presented a mother ’s day project idea. She wants to highlight mothers in business with a promotion call “Give Her Flowers”. Nominees will be recognized on social media and then 5 winners will be given flower baskets at her May 7 pop up shop. She asked the Commission to help secure donations to provide the flowers. Members agreed to help with the promotion Adjournment Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm by Shadae Paul. The next meeting will be on 5/11/22 at 6:00 pm at the County building.
