April 15th, 2021 Meeting Minutes for Washington County Disability Advisory Committee

Meeting called to order at 9:36am
Old business
City of Hagerstown now has disability resource guide on website and Dave will follow up on the other
contacts.
New business
Danielle Stahl discussed the reapplication for a disability inclusion grant that is due June 30th. Evidence
based program that includes disability inclusion best practices and would award $20,000.
$5K - $10K could be used by this group
(July 1st or September 30th – start of the grant)
The group discussed having a series of disability resource markets that would occur around the county.
We may want to consider having it in the spring to give more time to invite vendors and for messaging.
- This would be an additional opportunity to market the resource guide
- Resource Markets in the fall
o Locations – Meritus, Arc (due to renovations, make the last stop The Arc in November),
Commission on Aging
o Consider other locations throughout the county – west, east, etc.
o When to have them? There was discussion to do 3 consecutive months of tabling at
different locations during warmer weather months
o Resources for care givers, navigations of services and the system, employment (job fair)
o Kickoff event to include speakers
o Tables/chairs provided, need for electricity
o Partner with Transition Council – next meeting April 28th at 12:30pm (Angie will forward
meeting invite to Danielle so she can share more about the grant)
Troy shared that there will be a virtual transition workshop on May 6th
There was discussion about membership. An idea was proposed for a by-law amendment that would
dictate that membership would need to have individuals with disabilities as part of the committee.
A question was raise; is there an age requirement for membership?
Dave is going to reach out to Krista for guidance on who is our county staff member, commission and
city member and will request a copy of the bylaws.
Can the meeting minutes from this group be placed on the county website for public viewing?
There was a motion to move the meetings to Wednesdays at 9:30am. All agreed that Wednesdays at
9:30am worked so Danielle will be sending a Google Meet link that can be used for the May meeting on
May 19th.
