Home My WebLink About19.12.09 - Minutes, Diversity & InclusionWashington County Diversity and Inclusion Committee December 9, 2019 Opening The regular meeting of the Washington County Diversity and Inclusion Committee was called to order at 5:35 on December 9, 2019 at 100 West Washington street in Hagerstown, MD PRESENT: Carlos Mellott, Arthur Hicks, Melissa Williams, Emily Keller Public: John Krowka, Deb Carbaugh Carlos Mellott made the motion to approve the November minutes. Mr. Hicks seconded the motion at 5:37pm. Meeting minutes from November were approved. Assessment of the Listening Tour: People have a different expectation of what was planned. People expect the Commissioners to attend Emily shared her experience about three community meetings in Hagerstown. Maintain adherence to open meetings act. Emily suggested inviting County staff to be able to answer peoples concerns, in order to draw more people and participation. Reschedule Boonsboro and schedule Smithsburg and Hagerstown (March not February) and hold our February meeting in Hancock (February 10). Two in February and two in March. Regular January Meeting here on January 131h. Community building in Williamsport. Mondays and Thursdays. Look at community calendar to ensure we are not in competition- Deb Carbaugh. April Meeting could be the debrief. Carlos will contact Krista for dates when at least two commissioners are available, preferably Tuesdays and Thursdays. Data request- demographical data, Maryland Department of Education, ALICE Report- United Way Site, Hancock Librarian said she had demographic information, number of languages, Sherriff's Department on Incarceration rates etc. Emily Keller left the meeting at 6:17pm Public Comment John Krowka suggested a live stream of meeting or listening sessions and scheduling/outreach to various faith groups, such as Interfaith Coalition, and a subcommittee for coordinating outreach. Mr. Krowka suggested a conference call for some meetings. Deb Carbaugh suggested a data subcommittee/Mining data/score card, how to share stories, and share what is done. We could add two names to the subcommittee (C) -for outreach A motion was made by Carlos Mellott to adjourn the meeting and move into closed session at 6:30pm.
