HomeMy WebLinkAbout191120 - Minutes, Ag Ed Center BoardWASHINGTON COUNTY AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION CENTER BOARD OF DIRECTORS MONTHLY MEETING November 20, 2019- MEETING MINUTES The Board of Directors held their monthly meeting at the Agricultural Education Center on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. President Sue Harr called the meeting to order at 4:00p.m. Board members in attendance: Sue Harr, Joe Layos, Jay Miller, Dave Moore, Darren Olden, Denny Reeder, Jeff Semler, Mike Starliper Excused: Katie Carr Staff in attendance: Jamie Dick- Recreation Director, Dave Brooks- facility supervisor, Erin Overdorff- admin, Andrew Eshleman- Director of Public Works, John Pennesi- Dept Director, Jeff Cline- County Commissioner APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes were approved with a motion. CITIZENS COMMENTS None COMMISSIONERS COMMENTS None FACILITIES COORDINATOR REPORT Over 500 people attended Park at Dark at the facility on October 18. The St Jude Trail ride went well on October 19. The November 2 Winefest was well attended and will occur again in 2020. Washington County Business Development held a successful hemp event on November 5 in the MP bldg. There was discussion on 2020 Muddy Mamas and their use of the facility in a specific garden area. We will address the course with them. Upcoming Events: November 16, 2019 Antietam Illuminations Pole Barn 3 November 16, 2019 Western Maryland Farm Toy Show MP Building November 30, 2019 Hagertown Model Railroad Show MP Building December 8, 2019 Silver Starlettes Banquet MP Building December 15, 2019 Burnside Church Banquet MP Building RURAL HERITAGE MUSEUM AND VILLAGE REPORT December 7 and 8 is the Holiday Open House from 1pm-4pm. Jeff Semler gave the RHM Committee update from being the RHM representative at the October 30 RHM Committee meeting. Positions, communication, and other business was discussed. The expectation to follow polices was stressed without wanting to have constant oversight. The Curator’s role was outline and identified clearly as a volunteer position. A moratorium on incoming items was addressed and agreed on as well. Storage space issues were discussed. It was asked to set 2020 goals. The RHM will be closed from holiday open house until spring open house for refreshing of exhibits and storage clean up. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Bylaw review- The Board received a full packet of bylaws- original bylaws, markup copy with updates and clean copy with proposed changes. Katie Carr identified 5 priorities for the Board to consider as additions to the bylaws. Stormwater pond update- work is near completion for the project. Thank you to Darren Olden for all of his assistance with seeing this project through. Ag Board Checking account- Officer’s of the Board will meet with Budget and Finance on December 9 to discuss the checking account procedures for the Ag Board. NEW BUSINESS Closed Session: motion to go into closed session made at 4:25pm; motion to come out of closed session made at 5:30pm.
