HomeMy WebLinkAbout190709 - Minutes, Electrical Bd WASHINGTON COUNTY ELECTRICAL BOARD OF EXAMINERS & SUPERVISORS MEETING MINUTES July 9, 2019 A&B CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL Bob Kochera called the regular monthly meeting of the Washington County Electrical Board to order at 7:30 a.m. on July 9, 2019 in Conference Room “1A” of the Washington County Administrative Annex Building in Hagerstown, Maryland. Members present were Daniel Sterling, Terry Molnar, Steve Ryan, and Charlie Shindle. Becky Gander, and Katie Rathvon from the Division of Plan Review and Permitting were also present. MINUTES The minutes for the June 11, 2019 Electrical Board meeting were accepted as written. OPEN SESSION OLD BUSINESS 1. LOCAL AMENDMENTS • Becky Gander advised the local amendments were being typed up and submitted to the County Attorney to stay on track with the proposed adoption timeline schedule, but a copy would be sent to each board member for review. • She stated the changes were mainly cosmetic changes and no changes were made that required board approval. • The adoption of the new codes is still on schedule with a proposed adoption date of January 2020 and an effective date of March 2020. NEW BUSINESS 1. PERMITTING COMMENTS • Becky Gander advised an applicant has been selected to fill the permit tech position and has been submitted to the County Commissioners for approval. The chief planner and building inspector positions have been advertised and will be filled as quickly as possible. WASHINGTON COUNTY ELECTRICAL BOARD OF EXAMINERS & SUPERVISORS 2. OPEN DISCUSSION • Charlie Shindle gave an update on the MUELEC Board meeting held last month. • Charlie Shindle provided a copy of a letter presented during the meeting by Department of Licensing, Labor, and Regulation on the importance and procedures for reporting an issue with a licensee to the State. • Charlie Shindle also stated DLLR presented concerns about how the electrical exams are being handled at a County level and are working with a company that creates the electrical exams for PSI, on correcting these concerns. • Charlie Shindle provided a copy of the document to Bob Kochera and requested that he read and provide his comments at the next Board meeting. • Charlie Shindle stated the Board may want to consider in the future having the exams handled at a State level. • Becky Gander advised if the County no longer offers the exams, applicants would then be required to hold a State of Maryland master electrical license. • Terry Molnar requested a report on the number of licensees in the County that currently hold a State of Maryland electrical license. • Becky Gander will provide the report to the Board during the next meeting. 4. CLOSED SESSION The meeting was adjourned at 8:08 a.m.
