HomeMy WebLinkAbout25.01.08 - Minutes Womens Commission WCCWMD.COM Washington County Commission for Women Minutes Present: Beth Harvey, Mary Hendrickson, Laurie Chrzanowski, Karen Hayes, Skyla Heise, Gwenn Leatherman Absent: Dawn Nally, Dani Sweeney, Kelsi Munson, Elise Weber The Commission for Women held its first meeting of the New Year on January 8, 2025 at Hagerstown Community College. The meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m. The WCCW account balance was reviewed and a short discussion was had for programming funds to expire June 30, 2025. Skyla Heise offered to put together some graphic design ideas for Commission promotional materials that could be used to thank speakers and invite new Commissioners. On November 26, 2024, the Board of County Commissioners reappointed Beth Harvey to a second term through October 31, 2027. Mary Hendrickson, Elise Weber and Dawn Nally will complete their term of service on the Commission April 30, 2025. Dani Sweeney will complete her term of service on May 31, 2025. Mary and Elise are interested in serving a second term; a procedural vote should be added to the March agenda. The Annual celebration of International Women’s Day takes place in March. An invitation to an event being planned by the Washington County Library was shared. Commission Member Gwenn Leatherman is presenting a workshop on healthcare at the Prime Time for Women 2nd Annual International Women’s Day Conference on Friday, March 7 at HCC. Elise Weber attended the event last year and highly recommended the program. The event is March 7-8 and tickets are $25. A discussion was had to continue attending Board of County Commissioner meetings and speak during citizen comments. On February 25 Beth Harvey and Karen Hayes (tentatively) will attend and provide an update on TEDxHagerstownWomen. On March 18, Laurie Chrzanowski and Gwenn Leatherman (tentatively) will attend to provide an update on International Women’s Day, highlighting women in Washington County. Beth Harvey will submit a request to appear on the BOCC agenda April 29 to highlight the Anniversary of the Charter of the Commission. On December 10, 2024, TEDxHagerstownWomen event was held at HCC for the third consecutive year. TEDxHagerstownWomen was a great success; well attended and showcased inspiring speakers. The event continues to build in popularity, but is limited to 100 in person guests. The live music during networking was a noted addition. Discussion on the quality of WCCWMD.COM sound recording at HCC may require a change of venue, but otherwise a superb event celebrating new ideas and bringing together women in Washington County. The State has announced that Women’s Hall of Fame nominations will not be taken until October 2025; and the appointed Commission will select this years’ inductees. Contact information was obtained for Sgt Terri Blair and outreach to connect with her will be continued in preparation for a fall submission. The Commission will meet next on February 12 at 6pm. A motion to adjourn was made by Gwenn Leatherman and seconded by Skyla Heise. The meeting adjourned at 7:09 p.m.
