The Commission for Women held its first meeting of the New Year on January 8, 2025 at
Hagerstown Community College. The meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m. The WCCW
account balance was reviewed and a short discussion was had for programming funds to expire
June 30, 2025. Skyla Heise offered to put together some graphic design ideas for Commission
promotional materials that could be used to thank speakers and invite new Commissioners.
On November 26, 2024, the Board of County Commissioners reappointed Beth Harvey to a
second term through October 31, 2027.
Mary Hendrickson, Elise Weber and Dawn Nally will complete their term of service on the
Commission April 30, 2025. Dani Sweeney will complete her term of service on May 31, 2025.
Mary and Elise are interested in serving a second term; a procedural vote should be added to the
March agenda.
The Annual celebration of International Women’s Day takes place in March. An invitation to an
event being planned by the Washington County Library was shared. Commission Member
Gwenn Leatherman is presenting a workshop on healthcare at the Prime Time for Women 2nd
Annual International Women’s Day Conference on Friday, March 7 at HCC. Elise Weber
attended the event last year and highly recommended the program. The event is March 7-8 and
tickets are $25.
A discussion was had to continue attending Board of County Commissioner meetings and speak
during citizen comments. On February 25 Beth Harvey and Karen Hayes (tentatively) will attend
and provide an update on TEDxHagerstownWomen. On March 18, Laurie Chrzanowski and
Gwenn Leatherman (tentatively) will attend to provide an update on International Women’s Day,
highlighting women in Washington County. Beth Harvey will submit a request to appear on the
BOCC agenda April 29 to highlight the Anniversary of the Charter of the Commission.
On December 10, 2024, TEDxHagerstownWomen event was held at HCC for the third
consecutive year. TEDxHagerstownWomen was a great success; well attended and showcased
inspiring speakers. The event continues to build in popularity, but is limited to 100 in person
guests. The live music during networking was a noted addition. Discussion on the quality of

sound recording at HCC may require a change of venue, but otherwise a superb event celebrating
new ideas and bringing together women in Washington County.
The State has announced that Women’s Hall of Fame nominations will not be taken until
October 2025; and the appointed Commission will select this years’ inductees. Contact
information was obtained for Sgt Terri Blair and outreach to connect with her will be continued
in preparation for a fall submission.
The Commission will meet next on February 12 at 6pm. A motion to adjourn was made by Gwenn
Leatherman and seconded by Skyla Heise. The meeting adjourned at 7:09 p.m.
