March 13, 2024 6 p.m.
Present: Laurie Chrzanowski, Beth Harvey, Mary Hendrickson, Melissa Peters, Danielle Sweeney, Randall
Wagner, Elise Weber
Not Present: Skyla Heise, Amber Mowery (excused), Dawn Nally
President Harvey announced that the Board of Elections is still accepting applications for election judges
to oversee early voting and general election balloting. She shared with us by email, as promised,
information about the process of applying, the training involved, and voting dates.
With the absence of Treasurer Mowery, Beth Harvey discussed finances. There is a $419 deficit in the
Circle of Sisters account but a $150 deposit to off set that. The remaining funds in the commission
account is $120 until the fiscal year renews in July. Reimbursement to Elise and Laurie for attendance at
two events as representatives of the commission is anticipated.
The April 10 meeting of the WCCW will be devoted to considering applicants to the commission. Laurie
Chrzanowski also recommended the names of two potential speakers for that evening. She will contact
them about their availability.
On May 8, Brooke Grossman, state Delegate from District 2B, will speak to the WCCW.
Beth Harvey inquired about whether it is worthwhile for the commission to continue to send
representatives to the Washington County Commission meetings to report on our activities during the
citizens’ comments section. Commissioner Wagner said that it is good practice for the commission to
share periodic information with the Washington County Commissioners. Volunteers will be sought to
attend and report at upcoming meetings. Mr. Wagner also advised us on requesting funds to sponsor
TEDxHagerstownWomen.
Laurie provided an enthusiastic report about the Power Brunch held at the Museum of Fine Arts on
February 25. Six women artists from the area shared perspectives about making art and touched on
achieving balance in their lives, including family and work commitments. February 23 Julie Phillips,
author of The Baby on the Fire Escape: Creativity, Motherhood, and the Mind-Baby Problem, spoke on
the tension between creating art and fulfilling domestic roles.
Laurie also mentioned that Miss Western Maryland’s Teen 2024, a profoundly deaf woman, has broken
a barrier by winning the competition. Stonehouse Winery was a sponsor of the event.

Elise Weber represented the WCCW at the International Women’s Day event on March 8, 2024 at HCC
that was sponsored by Prime Time for Women, headed by Bernadette Wagner. There were
approximately 120 women in attendance at the event featuring the theme “Inspire Inclusion.” A
keynote speaker, Toni Bowie, addressed the topic of “Let’s Truly be our Sisters’ Keepers.” A panel and
breakout sessions were also part of the program. The group discussed the possibility of inviting Toni
Bowie to speak to the WCCW in the fall.
A brief discussion occurred about the meeting schedule for the commission. A consensus was that eight
meetings per year is sufficient, particularly since there was a strong focus on work via subcommittees in
the fall.
Melissa Peters made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Dani Sweeney seconded. The motion was
approved.
