New member introduction- Catherine Magi had to cancel at the last minute. 1. Reading and approval of the Jan. 8, 2024 meetings’ minutes. Approved without correction on motion by Bill B., seconded by Bill K. 2. Old Business 1. 2024 Frye Awards Banquet & Nominations: The nominations made at the last meeting have been approved. The date has been set for Thur. May 16, 2024 at Applause Catering. There is an event preceding ours that day, and we cannot arrive earlier than noon. Lunch will be at 12:30. We decided against moving the venue to Elmwood Farm near Williamsport, due to costs and logistics. Ralph mentioned the catering price has increased slightly, and that perhaps we should make the fee $25 for those paying for the luncheon. Dawn confirmed that the BOCC will cover the costs for committee members, past recipients and the new awardees. Tom Clemens will receive the reservations and checks. It was agreed that John Frye, who the awards are named for, and John Schildt’s fees will be covered by the BOCC as well. We want to send out invitations by mid-March after we review the list at our March meeting. Jefferson will prepare the PowerPoint slides again. Laura Zimmermann will provide the table flowers. Bill B. mentioned we should notify the recipients ASAP. Ralph stressed that we need the information from the recipients for the plaques. We also need to write up a press release. Sandy Izer will do the program. 2. Membership: Dawn stressed she needs a list of our members who have not gone to the County Courthouse to be sworn in. We will create that list at the March meeting. Ralph noted that we still need representatives from Hancock, the Cascade area, and Maugansville. Members are encouraged to seek nominees. 3. Replacement for National Road milestone: Ralph stated it has not been installed yet. 4. Reichard farm complex on Greencastle Pike – Ralph approached the owner of AC&T who agreed to allow the buildings to be moved to the Ag Center on Sharpsburg Pike, which already has several historic structure re-built there. He also pledged $10K to facilitate the move. We agreed we will need to get more money for the move, and ensure that the log barn and the house both be moved. Some options might be the Nora Roberts Foundation and Preservation Maryland. 5. Ft. Frederick 100th Anniversary Celebration May 25-6, 2024 – Derek agreed to announce this event at the BOCC meeting. (At this point Derek & Dawn departed for another meeting.) 3. New Business 1. Planning for future meeting locations and times – It was agreed that the current location and time works for most people. 2. We discussed several items, including creating/distributing a Tax Credit Brochure, and what sources are available to people interested in preserving historic structures in the county. Currently there are no county covenants protecting historic structures, only land preservation. It was mentioned the Historic District Commission was working on a document on this subject. We also agreed to network with the Wash. Co. Historic Trust, the HDC and other parties. 4. Commissioner Comments – Derek had to leave early. No comments. 5. Member Comments Tom noted that the historic Boyer house in Sharpsburg will soon be turned over to the town of Sharpsburg for their Town Museum. Jefferson discussed the preliminary actions of the committee to recognize the 250th anniversary of the founding of Washington County. Having no other business the meeting was adjourned at 1:00. The next meeting will Monday, March 11, 2024 at the Western Sizzlin Steakhouse. 11:30. Respectfully submitted, Tom Clemens
