Meeting Minutes
September 16, 2021
Opening
This meeting of the Washington County Community Health Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:30am
by Douglas Spotts, MD, Chair, via virtual meeting.
Present
Earl Stoner, Jennifer Foltz, Rich Eichelberger, Rob Ferree, Cyndi Powell, Douglas Spotts, MD, Heidi Kendall,
Allen Twigg, Peggy Pugh, Allison Tages, DDS, and David Chisholm.
Old Business
• Approval of Meeting Minutes from June 16, 2021. Allen Twigg made the motion to approve as presented,
Cyndi Powell seconded. All voting in favor, minutes approved.
• COVID-19 Update provided by Earl Stoner:
o In general, in US, we are starting to see a little bit of a decline in case numbers. We have maybe
seen the peak of the delta variant surge.
o Children are getting hit hard by COVID.
o County’s vaccine rate is just under 50%.
New Business
Member Updates
Douglas Spotts, MD
Doug provided updates on the Go For Bold campaign, which is seeing increased participation. Reported the
gap in care because of the pandemic has led to decreased activity and more serious health consequences. It
is something we are struggling with.
Allen Twigg
Shared information on Meritus’ effort to create new crisis stabilization beds to help with the opioid crisis. They
are working on coordinated care and a referral system to help connect people to rehabilitative programs. This
is much needed and an evolving program.
Peggy
Discussed the school’s ongoing efforts to keep students in school safely and the challenges they have faced.
Discussed vaccination rate for the standard/required vaccines for school aged children.
Rich
County buildings are still open to the public. Reported Ashley Holloway is no longer with the County and that
he is acting as the Interim Director for Department of Plan Review and Construction.
Allison
Not much to report, just grateful they are able to once again have their mobile unit at the schools and thanked
Peggy’s help in reinstating that relationship.
Outlook

o Topics to be discussed:
Review of current member roster, term updates and vacancies
Election of officers
Review of bylaws, discuss potential amendments
• Future discussion topics:
o Community Needs Assessment – October (if time allows)
o Diabetes Plan (National, State, Local)/Go For Bold Updates - November
o Meritus Family Resident/Residency Updates
o Dental/oral health as it relates to systemic health.
o Health Department perspective on water/sewer quality
o The power of loneliness
Meeting Adjourned at 8:30am.
