HomeMy WebLinkAbout210617 - Minutes, Community Health Adv.Washington County Community Health Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes June '17, 2021 Opening This meeting of the Washington County Community Health Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:30am by Douglas Spotts, MD, Chair, via virtual meeting. Present Earl Stoner, Jennifer Foltz, Rich Eichelberger, Rob Ferree, Cyndi Powell, Douglas Spotts, MD, Heidi Kendall, Allen Twigg, Peggy Pugh, Mark Bradshaw, Allison Tages, DDS, and Ashley Holloway. Old Business • Approval of Meeting Minutes from May 20, 2021. Heidi Kendall made the motion to approve as presented, Jennifer Foltz seconded. All voting in favor, minutes approved. • COVID-19 Update provided by Earl Stoner: o Positivity rate, case rate and numbers in general are still down. o Governor Hogan has announced he Is lifting all restrictions effective July 15'. o Still some concern and challenges with vaccine hesitancy. o Earl discussed the delta variant which emerged from India and is more transmissible and more deadly than other variants. New Business Member Updates Jennifer Foltz Jennifer was invited to share more information about her job, her company and the role they have played in the COVID-19 vaccination trials. Her company creates electronic informed consent forms that are interactive and educational. They work on clinical trials all across the world, and provided electronic consent portals for some of the major vaccination trials. In addition to the vaccination trials, their firm is also supporting trials for COVID- 19 treatment options. Earl In addition to all of their responsibilities related to the COVID pandemic, the Health Department is shifting back to normal operations such as behavioral health support and normal child immunizations. Heidi Discussed advocacy measures related to telehealth bill. Peggy Successful and safe graduations. Starting summer school across the county. Currently, they are masking in the schools and trying to prepare for the July 15' lifting of restrictions and the challenge that will pose for accurate contact tracing. Rich County employees are fully returned to the office and County buildings are now open to the public. Construction project load is normal — above average volume. Reports of materials shortages. Allison Reported they are working on revamping their use of the mobile unit during the summer months when they don't visit the schools. They are opening up the mobile unit to adults, which Is helping them see some new patients. With the adults, they're also helping to make referrals to the Family Center for primary care needs. Rob Construction material delivery is really starting to affect projects, especially for specific types of materials. Steel for example is on -11 month delay. The hospitality industry is bouncing back nicely but hiring/employment challenges persist. Allen Allen touched on the opioid epidemic and discussed his role on the Alcohol and Drug Policy Council. He also discussed the diabetes action plan, which will be a future discussion topic for these meetings. The Community Health Needs Assessment takes place every 3 years and will be taking place this year starting -July 1E'. He thinks we should make this a discussion topic for this meeting and have a focus group around the health needs in Washington County. Ashley Washington County Planning and Permitting still using a drop box method for receiving permits. Doug Discussed efforts to return to "normal". This includes getting back to care gap analyses, trying to identify what really matters to patients, and the Go For Bold campaign. The Go for Bold campaign has lost -8,000 collective lbs so far! Outlook • Future potential topics: o Health Department perspective on water/sewer quality - September o Community Needs Assessment - October o Diabetes Plan (National, State, Local) - November o Meritus Family Resident Group Activities and Objective o Dental/oral health as it relates to systemic health.
