A Special Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners was called to order at 9:40
a.m. by the President, Ronald L. Bowers, with the following members present: Vice
President Linda C. Irvin and Commissioners R. Lee Downey and Richard E. Roulette.
EMERGENCY LEGISLATION - VOLUNTEER FIRE & RESCUE COMPANIES
After discussion of the recent problems involving boundary disputes with volunteer
fire companies in Washington County with Wayne Williams, President of the
Washington County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association, and Ernest Truax, Chairman
of the Association's Boundary Committee, the Commissioners agreed to request the
Washington County Delegation to the General Assembly to request emergency
legislation.
MOTION made by Commissioner Roulette, seconded by Downey, to request the Washington
County Delegation to proceed with the introduction of emergency legislation
authorizing the Board of County Commissioners with the advice of the Washington
County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association, to establish boundaries, training and
equipment and other standards for volunteer fire and rescue services and also to
authorize the County to make loans to volunteer fire and rescue companies for
equipment, land, and buildings necessary for their operations. Unanimously
approved.
CONVENE IN EXECUTIVE SESSION
Motion made by Commissioner Downey, seconded by Irvin to convene in Executive
Session at 9:55 a.m. in regard to personnel matters in accordance with Section
10.508 of the State Government Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland.
Unanimoulsy approved.
RECONVENE IN REGULAR SESSION & ADJOURN
Motion made by Commissioner Irvin, seconded by Roulette to reconvene in Regular
Session at 10:15 a.m. and adjourn. Unanimously approved.
