TASKS TO COMPLETE DESIGN GUIDELINES
• Brief statement pertaining to functions of the Clear Spring District Historical Association,
Boonsboro Historical Society, Smithsburg Historical Society, Hancock Historical Society and
Sharpsburg Historical Society
• Section 2 — determine the documents that must be submitted with an application [such as a tax
credit application] and make a concise list to be included in this section.
• Section 2— The evaluation process needs to be very clear to Commission members as well as
applicants — Review for thoroughness and conciseness
• Demolition — Discuss "preferably preserved" concept and decide if this should be included in the
Guidelines
• Tax Credits — needs to be reviewed for accuracy
• Paragraph needs to be included relative to the Federal Tax Credits — who qualifies, how to
qualify,
• Review Section 4 for thoroughness and completeness
• Review Section 5 —Are all styles relevant to this County?
• Review page 84 of draft — 18th and 19century vernacular architecture needs more explanation
— Ms. Toms volunteered to review this section
• Section 6— examples are needed for each of the Secretary of Interior Standards — i.e.
Preservation, Restoration, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction
• Section 7 —need more examples of windows, doors, porches, ornamentation, etc.
• Beginning at page 150— need pictures of new construction (done well) attached to historic
structures
• Give particular attention to the following sections: applications for review, tax credits and
architecture
BEFORE THE NEXT MEETING — Review Sections 1 and 2, make notes and be prepared to work on
these sections.
