SUBJECT AUGUST Meeting
Enclosed are a few items of interest for HDC member review but none
that require action immediately. If members wish to provide additional
comments to the State Highway Administrations determination of NO
EFFECT on historic resources for the changes to the I81 widening project
you should forward them to me by phone, e/mail or in writing.
The AUGUST 4th meeting will not be held.
Please plan to attend the next meeting scheduled for September 1st.
I'm planning to have the draft of the Design Guidelines completed for
Commission review. I would appreciate knowing if you are not able to
attend on Septemeber 1st (the Labor Day Holiday is September 6) so we can
reschedule if necessary.

I must regretfully report to you that Washington County's federal FY 2004 Certified Local
Government grant proposal for Phase IV of the Rural Community Survey is not among those being
funded this year.
This year, the Maryland Historical Trust received ten requests from Certified Local Governments
for grant assistance amounting to $155,278. Of these, five projects were approved to receive
funding from the available pool of $59,263. As you know, the matching requirements of 60%
federal moneys to 40% local match limit the extent to which we can stretch available funding.
I hope that you will not be discouraged by the outcome of this year's grant award process and come
back next year with another submittal. Should you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact
