PUBLIC HEARING - INTENT TO CLOSE A PORTION OF PLEASANTVILLE ROAD
A Public Hearing was convened at 7:00 p.m. at the Antietam National Battlefield
Visitors Center, as advertised, with the following Commissioners present:
President, Richard E. Roulette; Vice President, Ronald L. Bowers; and
Commissioners Linda C. Irvin-Craig, John S. Shank, and Gregory I. Snook.
Commissioner Roulette stated that the hearing is to hear public testimony
regarding the intent to close the unimproved portion of Pleasantville Road
which runs through the C & O Canal National Historic Park property. William
Orlando, Ranger for the Monocacy Subdistrict of the C & O Canal, stated that
the Park Service made the request to limit access by vehicles to this area
because of the vandalism, poaching, and dumping of trash which was occurring on
park property. He stated that the road is a dead end and there are no private
residences located along this portion of the roadway. The Commissioners then
opened the meeting for public testimony. There was no one present to speak in
favor of the request. There were six citizens who spoke in opposition to
closing this portion of the road. Commissioner Roulette stated that the record
will remain open for ten (10) days in order to receive any written testimony.
The hearing was closed at 8:05 p.m.
