Meeting Minutes
October 9, 2019
Opening
The initial meeting of the Washington County Disabilities Advisory Committee was called to order at 2:36 p.m. by County
Clerk, Krista Hart, 100 West Washington Street, Second Floor, Hagerstown.
Present
Commissioner Cort F. Meinelschmidt; Deborah Condo, Deputy Director, Human Resources; Krista Hart, County Clerk,
Angie Auldridge, Kris Detrow, Amanda Distefano, Heidi Kendall, Linda Mae Kline, Randolph Samu, and Sarah Thornton.
Introductions
Each member was asked to introduce themselves and share why they wanted to join the group and the
accomplishments they wish to see from the Committee.
Citizen Participation
None
New Business:
The first meeting of the Disabilities Advisory Committee opened with Ms. Hart welcoming all attendees and thanking
them for serving. Commissioner Meinelschmidt will serve as Acting Chair and Krista Hart will serve as Acting Secretary,
until those positions are voted upon and filled.
Members discussed topics/issues throughout Washington County which they would like to be addressed by the
Committee to include:
• Advocate for disabled Washington County residents
• Accessible parks
• Disabled Veterans
• Accessible living options within Washington County
• Inpatient treatment options in Washington County and/or Western Maryland
• Wheelchair accessibility for Board of Election sites
• Closed captioning for Board of Commissioner and Board of Education meetings
• Encourage local business to include closed captions (ie: movie theaters, doctor offices, counselors, etc.)
• Available grants to assist with ramps, visuals, parks, etc.
Nominations
The members discussed the positions of Chair, Vice -Chair, and Secretary. The following nominations were made:
Chair Randolph Samu
Vice -Chair Amanda Distefano
Secretary Heidi Kendall
Agenda for Next Meeting
• Voting for Chair, Vice -Chair and Secretary positions
• Discuss recurring meetings (monthly or quarterly)
Adjournment
Meeting was adjourned by Commissioner Cort Meinelschmidt. The next general meeting will be at 2:30 p.m. on
November 13, 2019, 100 West Washington Street, Suite 2001, Hagerstown.
