Kris Detrow plans to reach out to Jim Kercheval for the guide to be placed on the Greater Hagerstown. Dave will be requesting a copy of the current by-laws to present at the June meeting to continue our discussion of membership makeup with regard to the addition of more self advocates. Dave will also be putting together a document of the days/times of the Town Council meeting and then sending a mass email to the town clerks to further market the resource guide. There was discussion about any other entities who should be linking to the guide and the following were discussed, and a committee member assigned to connect: Department of Social Services - Sarah USMH - Dave HCC - Angie The disability inclusion grant timeline that Danielle mentioned has been moved and the budget would not be approved and available until the fall, making the timing of a series of spring disability resource markets more likely. This also gives the committee more time for planning and marketing. New business Summer camps and programming was identified as a big area of need. There was discussion about the historic need for summer programming, dating back 30 years. Special Olympics has become the default activity of choice. There are camps that exist but require transportation to locations further than 30 minutes. Community partnerships are needed to create opportunities for children with disabilities. It was suggested that our group reach out to the Washington County Parks and Recreation Department, as well as the City’s Parks & Rec department to invite them to our June meeting to share the need. Angie will reach out to Jaime Dick with the county and Amy Riley with the city. Another area of need identified is the lack of ASL interpreters at Washington County Board of Education meetings. An interpreter has been provided in the past only if the parent or citizen made the request. The live auto captions provided are not sufficient. Just a reminder, meetings have been moved to Wednesdays at 9:30am and the next meeting will be June 16th via Google Meet. Danielle will send a meeting reminder for the June meeting. Meeting adjourned at 10:32am.
