Introduced Danielle and her role- will be stepping in when Troy is unavailable
Angie reviewed the resource list that she compiled for the committee. Group discussed the target area:
tri state? Or Western portion? A suggestion was made to continue to collect the resource data and then
we determine off of the data available what our target arena would be. Letting county post our resource
need and continue to build the database. May add another section to this resource and list employers
whom are disability friendly to hire folks. Meritus is an employer that is disability friendly. A general
discussion took place to identify our target area as it relates to employers who are disability friendly.
Action Item: Angie to connect with her DORS contacts so an individual can join our meeting
Action Item: DORS rep to review what the tax incentives working with individuals with disabilities-can
we advertise this through Washington County at some point?
Randy reviewed that there are some businesses that are not disability friendly- the historical society is
causing some challenges in this area and not allowing wheel chair access for some commercial business
locations. Concern has been raised on the lack of ADA requirements for local businesses.
Action item: need to find a contact for historical society and legislation to discuss the handicap
challenges within the Washington County area
Rachel Brown no longer with Washington County HR department
Proposed a day and time change: Doodle poll?
Action Item: Heidi to connect with Court to identify the day and time he is available so that we can
make some moves with his assistance and set up a doodle poll. Will need to alert Krista to any schedule
changes
Danielle sent out a lot of surveys to local businesses- has received 5 so far and just received Meritus. Is
starting to compile the data and look into the trends. Will be looking into a community survey to assess
levels of dependency and service need. Goal is to have data in early October. MD department of health
has a disability advisory committee that is put on by the department of disabilities at MDH.
Action Item: Danielle to send the rough draft survey for the community to this group. Will send past
ones used just for reference
Action Item: Danielle will let us know if anything of value is discussed in the disability advisory
committee ran by MDH
